7 1/2 Habits

Habit 7 1/2 is easiest for me. Play! Ha!

Seriously though, I think play is an integral part of learning and I think my head would implode if I didn’t see the joy in continuous learning. Also, being responsible for your own learning is an easy one as I am self-directed and enjoy charting my own course.

I guess the only habit that gave me pause is “begin with an end in mind.” Sure, that’s a great way to take on any new (or not new) learning experience and many work-related endeavors, and in some ways it’s a given. Get your degree. Learn a language. Learn a new instrument. Where do you want to be in your career in 1 year, 5 years? The thing is, so much of life changes mid-stream, and I would hate to be so stuck on “the end” that I totally missed the journey! That’s usually the best part, and sometimes taking the unexpected detour, or the other road that diverged in the yellow wood, instead of the well-planned END, is the most rewarding part and results in a far greater END (that is still ongoing) than the static END you had to name at the beginning.

However, I have learned that if you work with teenagers, always give them an end date/due date/deadline. :-)
